The unmanned train station was a dirty and unpleasant place. Luleå train station was previously unmanned, making it a messy, dirty, and unpleasant place for travelers. This is something that the station owner, Jernhusen, wanted to change.
The station hosts provide good hospitality by welcoming and directing train passengers. When arrival or departure times change, they provide information on other options. The station is now a pleasant place to be, and a societal challenge has been overcome.
FourM started life by way of a training concept at Coompanion, where participants learned how a social enterprise is run and how to profit from solving societal challenges. FourM stands for “Mål, Mening, Mervärde, Medbestämmande” in Swedish, which translates as “Ambition, Purpose, Added Value, and Co-determination”. In addition to home and cleaning services, FourM provides laundry services at Bergviken nursing and care homes and station hospitality at Luleå train station on behalf of Jernhusen.
The social objectives of the enterprise are to create work for people who are on long-term sick leave, struggle with the Swedish language, or have a disability that makes it difficult for them
to access the labor market.
Today, FourM and Jernhusen have gone their separate ways, but this is a great example of good business!
